VEFA - mass repayment of creditors
Beria: With his imagination he is trying to make Myzeqe compensate for the losses of the pyramid schemes
Men do not grow, Mr. President!
Defend parliament: forgive the mistakes of the free:
On 15 February, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Republika”, D. Greca, brought police commissioner the journalists Genci i Goban, who is also the editorial secretary, Mesil Dule and Fiqiri Ndoji, who for some time had been part of the “temporary” student protests. In his remarks he told them that “paralysis of Parliament would bring catastrophe” and that the country did not need such a reaction; that “extremism” would not be allowed and that “more than that”, according to him, “cannot be achieved”.
The following week, the same editor called one of the journalists and asked him not to attend the meetings of the “committee” anymore.
The front page of the newspaper “Republika”, which had made its anti-student position public, also published a long article asking the government for “sincerity” and a message of “cooperation”.
This very inhumane approach by a body that attacks peacefully, using “parliament” as its symbol, is not only unfair and unacceptable, but also an open incitement to division and conflict.
At that time, some journalists had broken away from this newspaper for reasons of professional ethics, and this act was made public by their own colleagues.
The relationship between power and the newspaper “Republika” was then marked by accusations, pressure and polarization. In February 1997, Albania’s streets were filled with protests and the country was facing the pyramid-schemes crisis.
To the Council of Ministers
On 11.02.1997 the Council of Ministers of the PR formed positions regarding the governing coalition government.
The Republican Party declares that it is in opposition to this cabinet’s government. Thus, as in its earlier writings, the PR calls on the government to take measures to calm the situation and avoid the escalation of the crisis.
For internal reasons of the country, the government must act responsibly, ensure order, and protect the lives of citizens.
The government must protect institutions and fulfill its obligations to the people and the state.
According to the Republican Party, resolving the crisis requires cooperation and responsibility from all political forces.

Tirana
On 11.02.1997 the PR Council of Nations, among other things, decided to request the resignation of the government.
The Republican Party left the coalition government after deciding to withdraw its officials from the cabinet.
Thus, in its declaration, the PR once again emphasizes the need for coalition and calm.
Its representatives remain determined to defend the interests of the citizens and of the country.

Why did the PR reject the invitation to the “Forum for Democracy”?
The Republican Party considered the invitation to participate in the Forum for Democracy, but did not accept because of the political circumstances at the time and the lack of guarantees for a fair and open process.
The unrest in Albania, as well as the rising pressure of the situation, led the PR not to take part in initiatives that did not ensure stability.

The President
Albanians cannot bear collapse. To be hospitable, a fighter, and a person who honors the state is a strong trait of this people. But to sit and not have a clear position on the fate of the country is a weakness that cannot be accepted.
Mr. President,
You must understand that Albania cannot go into total collapse. Parliament and its institutions must be respected. This is not the time for adventure; it is the time for responsibility.
Mr. President of the Republic,
please do not let the country slide into chaos.
Albanians cannot be afraid of divisions. This newspaper calls for a measured solution, a strong state, and a policy that serves the national interest.
