The Fino government owes nothing to anyone
The Government of National Reconciliation yesterday completed one month in office. During this month many events occurred. Many things could have been better, but governing the country in this extremely difficult period for Albanians requires above all calm, determination, a search for paths of understanding, cooperation and justice. In this very hard period for Albanians, we all owe everything to this country. If each of us had been more careful and restrained, perhaps many things would have turned out differently. This does not mean that the government should not also examine its own responsibilities in the mistakes that were made. If it is the only government of our time, if it is to be the government of all Albanians, it must begin by restoring trust and civility. But it must also do no less to foster such an attitude that encourages understanding in the language of dialogue with honor and respect. Fino said that yesterday made clear that Albania has a solution born within Albanians themselves, who in difficult times feel the need for peace, calm and salvation. And a little earlier, the opposition parties had created a new initiative for a national dialogue and for a further strengthening of the Government of National Reconciliation. In this sense, Fino said yesterday, his government will not focus on the problems created along the long and difficult path of the crisis, but will work with Albanians for a rapid solution. "In this tumultuous time," he said, "my government owes nothing to anyone. It has only obligations to this country." He then addressed those who already call it their government, making clear that this is the government of the people. "The circumstances created by certain circles are making the work of the government more difficult. Perhaps it would be better not to go down that dark road that seems to be leading us into another crisis. With some of them, he said it is wrong to hope for a solution or reform. It is necessary for everyone to unite in order to create a climate of understanding and cooperation. Together we can find the path of necessary reforms, which concern not only the government but also the life of each one of us." Asked about his government, he said it must have a clear platform, build normality, restore calm, but have no compromise with theft and crime. He also said he seeks cooperation with the opposition in order to build a peaceful state. He said the first decisions will concern the creation of security forces. Discussing the country's integration, Fino explained that Albania is ready to establish good relations with all states and all international institutions, both with the European Community and with the United States. He added that Albanians' hope lies in the future and in politics, but also in faith. He further mentioned that work will also be done to increase cooperation with other parties and to open new paths for coordination. My government, he said, will serve all Albanians. "It will not be a government to seize power, but to return it to the service of citizens." His government, in his view, should be weak only in the sense of renewal, but strong in the sense of law and order. He added that work will continue to calm the country and restore order, not allowing chaos to rule any longer.
