Today’s Rome meeting for emigrants, illusions and integration... in Albania! The announced integration of all Albanians in the process of economic, institutional and national reconciliation is being accompanied only by the excessive courtesy of those in power. Concrete actions and initiatives are few. The recent meetings with representatives of the IMF, the World Bank, and the German Reconstruction and Development Bank, although they confirmed the need for cooperation, produced nothing concrete to inspire a rapid exit from the crisis. At the same time, the same degree of courtesy dominates bilateral relations with neighboring countries, Italy and Greece. The fate of Albanian emigrants has still not been determined, although in recent days our diplomacy has preferred to change tone, stammering in a servile manner. Today there is a bilateral meeting in Rome on Albanian emigrants at expert level. But what is expected from this meeting? Almost nothing. Milo said yesterday, we expect the gradual integration of emigrated Albanians. And that integration is expected to take place only in Albania. No more and no less. Our government will seek to postpone for a while the return of the unfortunate emigrants, but also their employment. Comment is superfluous. On the other hand, our neighbor Greece is giving no sign of keeping the promise it made to the Albanian left when Pangallos came years ago. To this day Greece does not remember the seasonal employment of Albanians, who march day after day on foot along the roads of Greece. The Albanian left, because it is in government for a while, asks for help from its political allies. The fate of the emigrants is a very heavy burden on the neck of the Nano Government, which cannot be solved simply with pleas. Telegrams and courtesy letters come and go, but concrete activity and the aspect of real reciprocity remain frozen. The television welcomes and farewells no longer make any impression on Albanians. The political forces in power, surprisingly, still are not shaking off the feeling of euphoria after the resounding June victory. The new rulers, just like those of the PD yesterday, seek to govern with slogans while avoiding governing responsibilities; indeed, every now and then they blame the opposition for the stagnation of the processes of the country’s recovery. Show me Pollos’s gun, Arbnori’s remark, the ridiculous displays about carrying weapons without a permit, and many similar episodes cast colorful shades of political buffoonery in general, and of the Government’s activity in particular. In recent days, observing the cold reaction of Europe’s political trusts to the ridiculous coalition of the left, concocted according to Nano’s diabolical imagination, the political forces forming the majority are discussing the possibility of finding a new formula that could widen the coalition’s machinery. It is expected that the Nano-Gjinushi-Ċela trio would be joined in the coalition by two or three other revivalist parties. Who will be the lucky one? To witness a new act of the Albanian political comedy.
