The Crete Summit on the Brussels test Europe is stripping away any illusion about spontaneous integration, trumpeted by the Crete Summit, and seeks to open the way to bloc integration. The EU Foreign Ministers will meet on Monday in Brussels to define new patterns of development and cooperation in a modern spirit that should characterize the Balkan countries. The next EU meeting will confirm that, on the political and economic horizons of our region, there are signs that may foreshadow failure. The Crete Summit, which will be presented by the Greek Foreign Minister, Theodoros Pangalos, treated the Balkans as the property of visionary Balkan people. But the EU purse will be placed in the role of international economic and financial bodies, which respect the logic of capital concentration and not of particular regional values, which fuel nationalist tendencies. Official and unofficial Balkan policies, wrapped in prejudice and old psychologies, from the European perspective hinder the creation of a vision of community, and even of Balkan neighborhood, which currently does not possess a common consciousness and remains far from institutional functions.
