Europe has no time to listen to Albanians

This obstinate teacher will never penetrate the labyrinths of Albanian politics It seems that the Members of the European Parliament came to Albania for the weekend and do not hesitate to praise the Government, presenting it as free of all negative tendencies. More or less, the Members of the European Parliament described the socialist government as positive, seeing hardly any deviation from Europe’s recommendations. In yesterday’s meetings, held with the government and the opposition, the Members of the European Parliament seemed not to have enough time to listen to the side opposite them, especially when they were facing the opposition of the small parties. Apparently, for them only understanding with the government matters, and with the opposition represented only by Berisha; in fact, they even prepared for him the formula he had in parliament, without counting much on manliness. Even when government officials or politicians from the government side misled the Members of the European Parliament, they did not bother to look for the source of the truth, but considered all the facts to be muddled. Thus, for example, when the information was served up that the Constitutional Commission included in its ranks governmental organizations or religious communities, something that is not true at all, at least so far, they did not want to take notes. Even when they were told the truth, that this Commission has not begun to function in its current composition and is still in the political stages, they seemed not to understand. The Members of the European Parliament were very impatient with the so-called small parties, even violating the most basic ethics. For them, something from Berisha was of interest, while the rest of the opposition was not. All of Berisha’s statements were perhaps recorded in the European notebooks, while the suggestions of the Right went in one ear and out the other. One or two Members of the European Parliament asked strange questions, sometimes aloud and sometimes under their breath, about whether the Albanian Republican Party should be compared with Germany or the Balli Party with its counterpart in France... As it seems, Europe knows neither Albanian politics nor its politicians. Vranicki, who knew them at close range, left yesterday’s sentence of the angels, while these, apparently, are far from the truth. Looking at yesterday’s meetings, it is not hard to realize that the meetings were more of a formal act, perhaps to fulfill some duty once undertaken and an obligation. If Albanians do not find within themselves a standard by which to judge the shallowness of their government and their politicians, they will find it difficult to understand Europe’s vocabulary, which, when Berisha was in power, did not spare praise and congratulations for the great steps toward democratizing Albania and today is doing the same thing with the socialist government. To give weight to the fact that in Albania we have a Parliament outside of function, which not infrequently, for political purposes, also violates constitutional provisions; that there is a government which, in the name of meritocracy, replaces militancy; that there is a destructive opposition, which acts according to the sectarian rules of the PS; that there is a more genuine right-wing opposition, which is deliberately neglected by the government and by what calls itself the opposition.
