Populism sinks Populism is in its final throes. The leitmotif of Albanian politics seems unable to survive much longer. The electorate is closing its doors to pseudo-politics, in an effort to create a new democratic consciousness. The disappointments are irreversible. Albanians are turning their backs on clans, in order to trust a national policy. Their consciousness is settling comfortably at its optimal starting point. A political balance is needed, far removed from one-sided gains. Confidence in today’s politics has fallen to zero. The electorate can no longer stand the “barafilëve” of the PS. Once, they fell to their knees with the promise that they would govern differently. Now the central figures of the Socialists are reluctant to go to Vlora, even though not even a year has passed since they were shouting, “Vlora, the leading city!” Illusions have collapsed in this party’s branches. The Socialist political action is missing its most rational motive — confrontation. Continued on page 4
