Yesterday’s meeting of the PS Steering Committee once again brought to mind the old Bonapartist idea of politics as administration. According to this idea, a statesman or administrator of public affairs is at the same time a member of the upper bureaucracy, of state intervention and of planning. Thus, the state the socialists are creating is nothing other than an accidental benefit of adaptation. The advantages of the various interests are so great that, in every case, the government is able to make concessions to the irrational remnants of the old state farms. Like a commercial utopian, the utopian Nano wants us to believe that in a free society governance is administration, while the question of welfare and the common good of politics is resolved through a philosophy that understands human needs and shapes society accordingly. Socialism, by its very nature, is incapable of defining the contradictions of the political group, because socialist freedom, purpose and policy are the end of all politics.
