American diplomacy under threat

Tirana feels the absence of Miss Lino Diplomatic relations with the USA have become an “event.” The American Embassy in Tirana is temporarily suspending its activities amid high levels of insecurity. The situation has been observed to be very serious. As in many other countries, American diplomats in Tirana feel threatened. This is now a fact, not a fabricated story invented by journalists to fill the news vacuum left by stories that have evaporated in the heat. Given the situation Albania is experiencing, and especially Kosovo, threatened by the Serbian ether and total displacement, the news of the American Embassy's abandonment is extremely sad. Under these circumstances, the Albanian Government should feel the necessity of Miss Lino more than ever; she has quite often been there for both Nano and Meidani, especially when Berisha had imposed a boycott. Lino's absence will also be felt by politicians, both in the governing party and in the opposition. But our Government is not taking much care to protect American personnel.
