Immediately after the US antiterrorist attack, Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano fired “heavy artillery” of propaganda at his predecessors in power. His statement about the roots of terrorism in Albania was openly subversive in nature, especially toward the PR and Berisha. But if this politicized war against “terrorism” were to end there, it would be at least half the harm of the new phenomenon emerging in Albanian political life. The government’s propaganda alarm against so-called “Islamic fundamentalism” has set the state media in motion to address this issue in the spirit of an official, anti-national fundamentalism.
