In search of a strong hand

The left’s cynicism reached its peak yesterday in Parliament when it began reviewing routine draft laws, without putting the shocking events of the previous two days on the agenda. This shows just how high the socialists’ “political sensitivity” is: they have still not come to terms with the complex political reality. Instead of urgently seeking a solution to the situation through dialogue and other peaceful, democratic means, the PS is becoming a catalyst for tensions, solely to legitimize its doctrines and dogmas, which are beginning to smell of dictatorship. The socialists seem to be seeking, at all costs, a monopoly on strong-hand rule; to achieve this goal, they have declared all-out war on the entire right-wing opposition spectrum, including the DBSH. This is an attack rooted in totalitarian ideas, and its institutional consequences will be extremely damaging. The socialists have no one but themselves to blame for being unable to build a state or defend the state they cobbled together after 15 months in government. The assault on institutions by people must never happen, but let us not forget that the state’s taking of breath at that moment went unnoticed. Continued on page 3

The journalism of “Republika” is being threatened

Last night, “Republika” journalist Luljeta Progni was threatened: she was shoved and insulted as she attempted to enter the door to obtain information at the Parliament’s leadership office. We ask Minister Teta to state publicly whether his order to open proceedings for punishment, even by slapping, also applies to journalists on duty, all the more so when they are women. REPUBLIKA
