President Meidani, as the leading figure in Albanian politics, chosen by the International Committee to manage the latest political crisis in Albania, carried away by sterile passions and rhetoric, put the members of Parliament to sleep yesterday with an “appeal”, which was read by the Speaker of Parliament, Gj.Nushi. Ordinary Albanians, to tell the truth, understood nothing of this appeal, not simply because half the words were foreign, but because the President dwelt more on Albania’s geostrategic position, while also remembering to borrow the expression of the late and esteemed Mithat Frashëri: “My party is Albania.” The people, terrorized by the current government and the irresponsibility of the governing circles, were expecting a presidential initiative that would rekindle hopes of averting the crisis and grave situations. Meanwhile, the political forces were anxiously waiting for Meidani to convene a roundtable of the parties, based also on the recommendations of the European quartet and the U.S. Department of State, to work out a political solution that would eliminate conflicts and pave the way for an institutional process, in line with the will of all the parties and organizations in political and civil life.
