The “Friends of Albania” and the continuity government

Deep skepticism about Albania’s political, economic and institutional crisis. The newly formed group of “Friends of Albania”, comprising 23 states and international organizations, had been waiting for Majko’s new government program in order to coordinate technical and financial assistance to Albania, in the hope that a Western-style system would be adopted. But the new government’s program is essentially no different from the previous one, headed by Nano. Indeed, this program is considered to have been left as a legacy by the Nano government, which did not have time to implement it. The priorities of Majko’s government—public order, corruption, the constitution, institutional reform, constructive dialogue with the opposition, Euro-Atlantic integration and the Kosovo issue—cannot be put into practice through new institutional channels as long as the philosophy of the previous government prevails. Prime Minister Majko should have built his program entirely on the government’s mistakes. Continued on page 3
