The West gives lessons to Albanian politics

The state should assume direct functions The state should be entrusted with a monopoly over direct functions—not only political, but also economic ones. What should be demanded by all sides, representatives of the International Community stressed yesterday at the Tirana Conference, are freedom, laws, and Parliament. For the rules of democracy to be respected, Albania needs stability and internal dialogue that is not informal, but institutional. Albanians themselves must ensure the absolute imperatives of survival, relying, of course, also on the unconditional assistance of donors. This means that limited coexistence based on a common language and arising from the dictate of economic expediency must be transformed into an organic and spontaneous reality.
