Human rights in a “closed circle”

The 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights finds Albanians held hostage by processes that have spiraled out of control. Everything has sunk into passivity and defeatism, so much so that the world seems to have grown tired of pity and offers us no concrete guarantees for the development of democracy. We did not understand democracy as respect for one another and for ourselves, with the rights and responsibilities that belong to us, but as a battlefield for quarrels, resentments, and unlawful plundering of wealth. We have potentially lost a great deal. Democracy resembles a child with brain damage, caused by insufficient nourishment or mistreatment during pregnancy. Without genetic health, normal democracies cannot be created—democracies that set a free society in motion and develop active sovereignty within the Western community. The field of Human Rights in Albania is the most exposed field, where the complete failure of politics is evident. The strenuous propaganda efforts to conceal what ought to be addressed are futile. Human Rights have entered a “closed circle” of ideological viewpoints, in which tolerance and dialogue, as democratic means, have been materially excluded.
