The Republican leader Mediu seems to be acting in the normal role of a party leader, who cannot play an indifferent part toward the students, regardless of the fact that they brought pluralism. Calling for dialogue between the Government and the students at last week’s press conference, Mediu told Majko not to ignore the demands of the student youth. The Government played deaf; it turned a deaf ear. The President received them, but… did nothing. Now that the strike is a fait accompli, the PS and PD are stirring the waters by provoking the students. The PS claims, but does not prove, that the hunger strikers are tools of the PD, even paid by it 30 thousand old lekë a day. The PD, it is understood, attributes this accusation to the socialists’ smile, and even declares, but does not prove, that it did not organize the strike. The PS goes further: its officials say that the PD has chosen the students to provoke the destabilization of the country. For their part, the Democrats do not hide their enthusiasm at having found an opportunity today to hold a rally where the young people are gathered, though they say their strike is not political in nature and has no connection with the Party! In everyday terms, for example, the demands include the dissolution of groups and economic requests, while also mentioning (though little) the political demands made by the students. According to the students, the hunger strike is the only way to guarantee their status, which is connected to university autonomy, increased scholarships, and improved living conditions.
