The contrast between the potential for the common good and the political and criminal evil that erupted in Shkodër has also concerned the Presidency of the European Union. Speaking about what must not be allowed to happen, the EU takes into account the opposition’s role in determining Albania’s democratic course. The mobilization of an effective opposition to pave the way for the synthesis of democratic ideas and the institutionalization of social peace is regarded by the EU as the only hope for helping Albania create a society capable of controlling its own historical destiny. The high European body recommends that the PD return to Parliament immediately, since its political existence is sufficiently threatened and the country’s internal social conditions could slip out of control, creating massive political disorder.
