Greater-Serbian chauvinism has never accepted the existence of the Albanian people as equal to others. The policy of clearing its “own” ground, of making Serbia ethnically pure, began when the Serbian state was established in 1878, and was continued by Yugoslavia from 1918 to 1921. After 1941 this anti-Albanian policy continued in other forms and has continued to the present day, more harshly than ever. At yesterday’s press conference, President Rugova, emphasizing the danger posed by the Serbian police presence in particular regions of Kosovo, reported that the first signs of ethnic impoverishment were becoming apparent.
