Old political habits do not seem likely to die easily. Tradition carries great weight, especially in the language and political methods of the left. The Socialists in power are trying to create the image that they embrace converging views. They are even trying to secularize the property issue, adopting a kind of sophisticated policy. The demand for the return and compensation of property should be understood less as pragmatism than as a political maneuver by the left to gradually appropriate the mission of the right and make the distinction between “left and right” unnecessary. The meaning of this “joke” by Nano is simply to mark the bipolarization of political life between PS and PD, for tactical reasons.
