How will the Republican Party be reformed? The creation of a new political alternative. It was not the most suitable road for democracy. It was not a policy suited to Albania’s future. It was not strong enough to attract the people who supported it. It was not able to strengthen relations with other parties. On the other hand, the creation of a new alternative in place of that policy would serve both the unification of Albanians and the creation of a new democratic society. The Republican Party has suffered in recent years, both from the deep political changes in the country and from its inability to adapt to the new changes. PR remains in a special situation. But to make it stronger, especially within the country’s political spectrum, new steps must be taken. Above all, it must become more attractive to the people who have believed in it. These are also the demands coming from members of the Republican Party themselves, who have expressed different and not always compatible views, but who have highlighted the need to open an internal debate on reforming the PR and its leadership. In that context, the discussion with Republican leaders held a day earlier also brought out the view that if we are to have a strong political force, its stable foundations must first be laid in the reality of the country. In Albania, we have difficulty building that politics, but even more difficulty implementing it, says the deputy of the Republican Party of Albania and also press secretary, Pr. J. According to him, that would be a one-sided solution. Reform, first and foremost, means having a broad debate within the party. “And we,” he stresses, “most importantly want first of all the views of all party branches to be opened up, so they can help find a common line.” According to him, efforts must be made to bring closer the majority of people who have believed in the Republican Party, many of whom, for different reasons, have had different attitudes and opinions. “Albania,” he said, “has a great need for such a force, one that must be told that it is remodelling itself in order to become stronger.” Within this framework, he emphasizes that it must be clear that reform in the PR is not a maneuver or move to exclude different people, but a necessity to create a new democratic alternative.
