Diplomacy or a “double-edged sword”
The role of the International Community in the process of averting war in Kosovo is unprecedented. “Peace within one week” is the latest ultimatum from the six countries of the Contact Group, which met yesterday in London. Both sides declared that both parties must accept a peaceful solution by 6 February, otherwise they will face consequences. British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook effectively dismissed dialogue to reach a new agreement or to respect the October agreement. Dialogue is the means, while peace and security are the goals. The Contact Group treats both sides as equally guilty, despite the fact that the KLA and the political leadership in Kosovo are in a purely defensive position. By contrast, the Serbian side is engaged in constant mobilization for conflict and criminal expulsions. After the massacre in Reçak, another tragedy was recorded yesterday in Rugovë of Has, where Serbian police killed 23 Albanians. Thus, the Contact Group’s diplomatic approach is not at all realistic. The negotiating process cannot begin without the fighting stopping. Likewise, the Albanian side cannot sit down for peace talks without a guarantee concerning Kosovo’s future status. The only clear message to emerge from the Contact Group meeting is that the great powers are afraid and have no desire to use force against Belgrade, despite the statement by

Macedonia, searching for another friendly match
TIRANA: Macedonia is very likely not to take the field at “Qemal Stafa” on February 10, the date set for a friendly match with our national team. Serbs kill another 20 civilians
All 20 ethnic Albanians killed in Kosovo on Friday morning were civilians traveling in a minibus, Reuters was told by Vetoni Surroi, editor of the ethnic Albanian newspaper.
“Albanian civilians were killed in the village of Rugovë, and I believe they were traveling in a minibus,” Surroi stressed, commenting on Serbian reports that their forces had killed at least 20 ethnic Albanian guerrillas yesterday morning.
The “Game” of Albanian Politicians
The fate of the politicians who led Albania, from Ismail Qemali to Sali Berisha, with Enveri and Ramizi in between
Almost all the Albanian politicians who have held the fate of this country in their hands have had a tragic fate—or, rather, their political game has not been managed by their political opponents; indeed, in some cases, everything has been ignored by the leaders who came after them. And unfortunately, our politics has been so harsh that the facts show this country has never known how to
