Yesterday, the most serious incident on the administrative border between the Republic of Albania and Kosovo was recorded. As a result of a military clash between Serbian forces and the KLA in the Padesh area, many shells fell on Albanian territory. The outcome of this fighting and the losses on the ground are still unknown, but one thing is certain: if the KLA is not supplied with weapons by NATO, the targets of the attacks will be not only Kosovo’s liberation units, but also territory within the Albanian border. NATO Secretary General Mr. Solana stated that “there are no contacts on the ground between NATO and the KLA and there are no plans to arm the KLA.” Nevertheless, the head of the “Alliance” did not rule out the possibility of arming specific liberation groups, depending on the circumstances that may arise. It is possible that the “Alliance” will soon supply Albanian soldiers with weapons of various calibres, since the option of a ground intervention still lacks the support of the Great Powers, including the USA.
