Is it time for politics?
By Agim BAÇI
Of course, it is normal to engage in politics at any time. Indeed, in moments when the fate of the nation has become a tangled knot requiring an emergency solution, politics is all the more essential. Here, our question would be abnormal for all genuine politics throughout the earthly tangle, but it seems necessary for the kind of political art practised in the Albanian political tangle.
So we are simply asking: is it time for this kind of politics being practised in Albania by the two major Albanian political forces and by the leaders of the Albanian government? Have they managed to grasp the full essence of the issue facing the history of the Albanians, or are they swimming along the same short-sighted train of thought as throughout all the recent years? Is Albanian politics moving at the same speed as the light of tomorrow is moving through Western chancelleries regarding the Albanian future?
Albanians, not only in Albania, have never in these past 100 years been so much at the centre of attention of all the world’s politics and media. For the first time, the card of the betrayal and injustice inflicted on Albanians has been laid on the table. Likewise, for the first time, the interest of the entire civilized world has turned toward the future of this region, which has caused no small amount of trouble for Europeans and, indeed, for the whole world. (Both world wars have been presented as originating in the land of Millosheviç, the land of no return.) For the first time, a concrete plan is being discussed that could lead the Balkans beyond narrow outlooks and open up space for normal progress.
