By Teodor KEKO When the great Naim called “the pen and paper” a weapon, he did nothing other than acknowledge the role of art for a nation, especially at crucial moments for it, such as the one we are going through today. Yet today, when national feeling has been rekindled and plays a major role in our commitment to resolving the Albanian question, very little, or no Albanian culture at all, is broadcast. Here there is a contradiction: on the one hand, we have many private TV and radio stations that are eager to broadcast Albanian culture, and, on the other hand, broadcasting is absent! The desire cannot become reality because the technology used to record our culture is far behind the technology of private broadcasters. Thus, Top Albania Radio broadcasts music recorded on minidiscs, while the masterpieces of Albanian music are recorded on tape or cassette. The same thing happens with films, dramas, comedies, recitations, concerts, sporting events, and other major Albanian cultural events in television broadcasting.
