Belgrade’s new diplomacy?

In Western diplomatic circles, even after the decision of the Hague Court, there is excessive confidence in Millosheviç’s positions. Immediately after the Serbian leader’s claims that Belgrade had accepted in principle the G-8 plans for peace in Kosovo, Paris and Bonn supported a new G-8 meeting, even though the US had expressed skepticism about Millosheviç’s statement. The doubt is justified. If there is a new diplomacy in Belgrade, it is still not accompanied by concrete action, such as the withdrawal of military and police forces from Kosovo and the ending of ethnic cleansing. Segments of European diplomacy have tended to trust Millosheviç, even though behind each of his actions lies a devilish maneuver to buy time and calmly continue the strategy of violence and ethnic cleansing. But the US, England and other NATO countries have shown no signs of backing down after Millosheviç’s statement. NATO has begun bombing operations, also stunning Russian diplomacy, which for the first time during its diplomatic efforts to negotiate peace appears satisfied with its positions toward Millosheviç.
