Albania, “smuggling” in Europe?

By Arben Llazri It cannot be said at least of the Albanian nation as a whole, but in Europe, although the de facto government of 1999 has lined it up side by side with other countries that are backward and seriously devastated by wars, in fact Albania’s left-wing government speaks, acts and judges our country as if it were still the old embodiment of the most backward, extremely destroyed and peripheral country in Europe. The fact is that the local government has still not clarified the long distortions of certain prejudiced divisions of backwardness, with the aim of building a European structure and cultivating an Europeanism of its own interest. Far from Albania, because the schizophrenia unleashed by part of a minister has kept it away from Europe for many years. Miliot Pollozani, taken as an example by an emigrant Albanian community, is not simply a loss. He may have been used as an illustration of a state method for assessing the prospects of Albania’s representation in Europe. Such people with elegant, though old, sovereign wells are international people of transfers and trade in general, and are used by the state to grant inexplicable credentials. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Albanian State try to find a professional basis, while the government in Albania acts entirely routinely and without vision, in a completely unnecessary instance of its own. A little while ago, 26 illegal emigrants tried to enter Greece at one of the border checkpoints. They refused to declare their identity and origin, but Greek police found in one of them an Albanian migration passport with the name Miliot Pollozani. Later, the police also discovered 10 other people with similar false documents. The event was used to stigmatize Albania once again as a country of trafficking and human smuggling. Instead of reacting with diplomatic seriousness, our institutions remained silent. This is a major problem for the country’s image and for Albanians in Europe. The use of Albanian documents by unidentified persons, even if only to cross borders, is a serious scandal that deserves a full investigation and an immediate response from the Albanian government and diplomacy. Otherwise, the consequences fall on the whole nation, because Albania is presented as a problem, not as a partner. P. 4
