By GJERGJ ZHEJI While the pseudo-politicians are preparing to celebrate the conclusions of the congresses, in Albania ordinary people are being persecuted by the lack of order and insecurity about tomorrow. Today’s young people, thanks to their intuition, have clearly understood that the major parties have not created an atmosphere of love and mutual understanding in social relations. Despite the present difficulties, however, I think there is no reason to be pessimistic about the days ahead. This is because we in the older generation have seen even darker times in history, and yet Albanian society has ensured its survival. But what will Albania’s political and social situation be like tomorrow? Naturally, there are times when even weather forecasts prove wrong, but I say (and I am not mistaken about this at all) that the younger generation will never accept the politicians’ current schemes, which are deliberately holding back the long-delayed spring. This generation, which declared open war on dictatorship in December 1990, is now continuing to challenge new attempts to put archaic systems in place, exerting open pressure for the democratization of the- that the major parties have not created a friendly atmosphere for ensuring alternatives, but have instead created a clan-based atmosphere to serve their own petty interests. In these circumstances, this generation has begun to react with indifference to the dizzying propaganda, seeking to revive its identity and find real ways to save national ideals. Even when young people leave Albania, they do so solely to stop hearing the nonsense of today’s pseudo-politics, and this constitutes one more indictment of today’s theatrical reality. Nevertheless, without wishing to express formal optimism, I can state that this very generation of our children and grandchildren is preparing, once and for all, to shake the disc of the horizon in the shape of a telephone dial, calling a better future onto the stage.
