The socialist government, one of the [?] governments, which used violence and power in a moment of crisis by manipulating Albanian citizens, not only failed to resolve it, but deepened it further. The Government’s total incompetence is now evident in every aspect of developments in the country. The wounds of Albanian society—corruption, smuggling, crime and organized crime—have become a structure that imposes and directs political developments in the country. The crisis is deepening further because of growing divisions within the Socialist Party. The Socialists’ congress itself did not analyze the problems facing the ma - [?] jority and its government; on the contrary, it clearly showed that the desire to put themselves at the head of the state and use it for personal gain has turned from a means of governing into an objective for the dominant faction of the PS. The recycling of those people whom Nano, in his resignation, accused of turning the PS into a swamp, and whom he accused of using political and government power for their own personal interests, clearly shows that not only are there no positive changes in the PS, but, on the contrary, the spirit of conflict and factionalism has deepened. Instead of drying up, the Socialist Party’s swamp has grown even larger. The Republican Party is against any kind of socialist government; they no longer have the right to form another government. The Socialist Party has fulfilled none of its electoral promises; it has been completely discredited in the eyes of all Albanians, turning Albania into a hostage to mafia and anti-Albanian interests. Albanians cannot wait for Nano to understand and correct his mistakes, which he has repeated during four terms as prime minister at different times. The idea that the party is held hostage by one individual is precisely this party’s greatest political mistake. Continued on page 3
