Justice at war with people without money

By Arben Iliazi On the walls of the Albanian justice institution, blocked signs have been placed for the state representative, at a time when the chairman and the minister are not concerned with the citizens’ troubles. Indeed, insecure citizens have become the target of repeated abuses, since the legal representation system has also turned into a mechanism that favors those who have money. In practice, the fees for lawyers, notaries, and other services have become unaffordable for most people. In many cases, the poor cannot manage to defend their rights, while the courts delay and drag out cases. Albanian justice seems to work faster for those who pay than for the ordinary citizen. In the face of this situation, intellectuals and representatives of civil society have raised their voices against injustice. They are calling for real reforms, transparency, and equality before the law, stressing that justice cannot be a privilege of those who have money, but a fundamental right for every citizen.
