Parliamentary commission, broader powers for anti-corruption work
PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSION,
BROADER POWERS
FOR ANTI-CORRUPTION
The parliamentary bureau has decided to submit to the Assembly for approval the PD proposal to establish a commission that will be tasked with investigating corruption cases. In this way, it would bypass the delays and the leadership of Parliament over the proposal and decision on this special commission. Appointed by means of a special Assembly decision, the commission will have the right to request verification of documentation, call witnesses, experts and representatives of the relevant institutions, as well as set other conditions for conducting the investigations. Likewise, the commission will have the right to order the appearance of all central and local government bodies to provide clarifications. In addition, the commission will have the power to request information and documents from administrative offices and other bodies. According to sources, the PD initiative, supported by its allies, is expected to be approved. Left- and right-wing MPs opposed the functioning of this commission, considering it a "Heads" commission of ministers.

Cika, parliamentary initiative for Berisha's immunity
CYKA[?], PARLIAMENTARY
INITIATIVE FOR
BERISHA'S IMMUNITY
The Court of Appeal has recently overturned Judge Arjan Aliaj's decision regarding Democratic Party MP Sali Berisha. According to the ruling, MP Berisha has the right not to comply with the verification decision. Sali Berisha, accused of false declaration of assets, has won at second-instance level. The parliamentary request by the prosecution to lift the MP's immunity will be examined in session today. The council of right-wing MPs yesterday asked the majority for full transparency on this issue. Against the latest decision, the process is therefore delayed until another parliamentary decision. MP Berisha has stated that this initiative is political and that the majority seeks to exert pressure. Voices from the majority said that the procedures will be followed according to parliamentary rules.
