The opposition is not boycotting the elections but challenging the manipulations
The opposition responds as a bloc to the PR’s call for a joint roundtable
The opposition decided on the steps it will follow regarding the majority and the electoral process. Ever since the statement by one of the majority’s MPs, which speaks of a predetermined result and the dominance of the coalition parties, the opposition parties have made clear their belief that the 1 October elections are being manipulated by the administration of the CEC, not in the sense that the institution itself has been challenged, but through left-wing representatives. Every day they are issuing statements saying that the position of all opposition parties is that Duman’s removal from the head of the CEC is not because he has a conflict of interest, but because of the composition of the CEC, so that the majority cannot guarantee an electoral process meeting standards. After holding consultations late last night, yesterday the joint response of the opposition parties was also made public in a statement signed by the deputy chairman of the PD parliamentary group, Edi Paloka. The opposition will not cooperate to improve election procedures, but will instead demand punishment for the violators from yesterday’s electoral administration. Opposition officials fear a predetermined result, now being directed by Prime Minister Ilir Meta. After the discussions held last night at the presidency of the latter, the opposition’s group of experts was tasked with presenting a joint statement. The clarification made in this statement is that the document submitted by the Republican Party cannot be considered consultation material, because it contains no more than a few ideas, which do not include even one argument or proposal on how the crisis in election administration can be solved, together with the steps that should be followed to overcome it. On 7 April, in the premises of Hotel Tirana, the joint meeting of the United Opposition was held at the invitation of the PR. At the end of the meeting, it was concluded that through the joint roundtable the opposition parties aim to find solutions to the problems related to the conduct of free and fair elections. After this meeting, the opposition parties led by PDS and PBDNJ withdrew from this roundtable after the statement by the PR leader, Fatmir Mediu, that an election boycott remains an open option for the opposition. 10 million lekë to free the rapist The accused orders prisoners to kill Volo Tasi Later, in his office, the central prosecutor Liri Askes and the accused Volo Tasi were the monitored group ready for action. According to the intercepted conversation two days earlier, the central prosecutor was asked in return for 10 million lekë to be given in order to tolerate Volo Tasi and not send him to prison. Askes showed understanding and managed to delay it. Immediately afterward, the head of Crimes of the Berat district, Akil Bako, was also involved in this case; he arranged for Lir[d]im Alikonomi to be sent to prison and for Pëllumb Feka to replace him in the cell.
