After culture, together in distress
Editorial
By Agim Baçi
If in the PS today socialists are called such, because it has chosen to make the chair of those responsible for the lack of culture, it means that Paskal Milo has not gone off for a daily wage toward a new test. And he has entered government with the conviction that he has taken upon himself a mandate that is in itself more than capable of containing such a minister. In Albania we have a great price that increasingly is being declared as the government's delirium for anti-culture. If for many the Minister of Culture is a guardian of museums, a manager of spectacles and funds, or a person who only needs to know how to cater to the appetites of fans and artists, then the government has found its man. The applause of the socialists for the right man shows that the fate of culture has taught them to distinguish good from evil. Culture has condemned the mad art with which the new Minister of Culture has covered up wrongdoing. If Paskal Milo is so far the darling of public opinion, this can only be done with a familiar trick in Albania, by frightening the people with the name of someone even worse. That is all. Not only that. On the governing side he reminds you of Enver with the bunkers of the roads against Yugoslav interference, while recently with the work of the Minister of Culture he has highlighted the same pretense over a certain act of governance.
Katia returns the funds for Albania; 35 million USD in aid cancelled
Greece has paid into Tirana 0 million promised to be obtained in 1999. The scenario of aid mismanagement follows a pattern of total failure. According to data from the General Directorate of Customs, Greece has allocated around 35 million USD for Albania, paid out according to a plan that was supposed to be overseen by the Albanian authorities and implemented mainly in infrastructure and other items. These funds, however, have been frozen because of a lack of accountability. Greece has announced that the funds are being redirected to other areas. Xhuliano Amalo

The minister’s boast begins with a war on the press Rama: Closed the doors for “Republika”
The Minister of Culture, before even starting work, has done the government a valuable favor with the first appointment of members to one of the influential institutions of culture. Instead of supporting a minister and culture itself, he has started with pressure on the critical press. His first step, an uncivilized lunge with an inexplicable move against “Republika,” is the courtyard of “Republika” that discusses and condemns. Page 11
