Apparently, this is our unfortunate lot: whenever it seems that we are flying through the skies of its political “paradise,” of demagoguery and dreams (in the sunshine); whenever we like being deceived, even though we know they are deceiving us about the good things awaiting us if we vote for those who win; whenever we dare to voice our grievances about what we lack and what the Government should provide us, someone, always in the Government’s name, jumps down our throats and demands (orders) that we leave our own problems aside and deal with the Government’s... it is the criminals, the gunshots they fire indiscriminately at people’s bodies (in many cases at each other, too, but without sparing us either) that wake us from our slumber. They remind us that in Albania there are also those who do not dream, but work (!). And these, it seems, are the criminals. Those who, nowhere in the world, really put much faith in politicians’ promises of “jobs” and “getting rich quickly,” through sweat and hard work; those who do not wait for the light to come to them when the Government decides, according to its out-of-kilter schedules of power cuts, but seek it with the great deal of money they have. In a word, those who, anywhere in the world, do not wait for “good things” from politicians or from work, but know how to take them themselves... at gunpoint, and who in Albania have

Page 7 Crime, the only “job” in Albania. who do not dream, but work (!). out-of-kilter schedules of power cuts, and who have the great good fortune not to fear the law (as everywhere in the world), because they know that the latter, as is commonly said in such cases, doesn’t have the guts to do anything to them. Well, they “work,” because none of those who claim to know how to build a state can “fire” them. They brandish their weapons in the middle of Tirana and openly defy the Police, rape babies, kill emigrants, traffic drugs and prostitutes and, whenever they feel like it, fire their guns into flesh or into the air to remind us that they are everywhere, close to us, untouchable and beyond the reach of the impotent laws of a castrated state.

A massacred migrant dies in hospital Yesterday, another attack by masked men on unprotected travelers claimed another victim, a person who lost his life. Very close to the Greek-Albanian border, near Kapshticë, in the village known as Trestnik in the Bilisht district, a group of refugees traveling toward the neighboring country to the south of Albania were attacked and robbed by a gang of masked men. Moreover, the end of this story was more tragic than a robbery of refugees. One of them, while resisting the masked bandits, also lost his life, along with the money he had taken with him to pay for things along the way in case of need.
