FIER - A man wounded by a slap, a young man wanted for attempted murder, and two families anxiously awaiting what will happen after this “battle” that has put them at the center of public attention. It happened in a village in Fier. In fact, it all began after an apparently quite trivial incident, one of those that occur in many schools in the country... A young man, G.S., 20 years old, harassed A.B.’s daughter, who is 40 years old, and her husband—at least, that is what the alarmed girl said at home—while she was still on school premises. It was not long before the girl’s father showed up at the young man’s family home, upset; apparently, this is where the serious incident took place, with a tragic outcome. It seems the first words were soon replaced by shouting and insults, until the young man pulled out a knife and plunged it into the body of the girl’s father, who had come to defend his honor. The man ended up in hospital, where he had to remain following the incident, while the young man took “to his heels,” hoping to escape the hand of Justice. The incident once again brings to mind a phenomenon that was worrying several years ago, but which apparently has not disappeared from Albanian life: certainly, if such incidents can happen at school, incidents of this kind—as the Fier case clearly shows—can lead to unforeseen and undesirable outcomes. Let us hope that there will be as few such people as possible.

Homeowners whose houses are to be demolished protest
TIRANA - “We demand that our rights be protected.”
A large group of people occupied both sides of the road leading out of the capital yesterday afternoon. They are precisely those who, according to a notice from the Ministry of Construction, must vacate their homes by 5 February because the houses are to be demolished. The protest became heated at the moment when the President of the Republic was expected to pass along that road, returning from a visit abroad. These moments also led to clashes with the police, who dispersed the crowd. At the exit from Tirana there is a large area of land that, from the beginning of the 1990s, began to fill up with houses, some built with permits and some without construction permits. The numerous protesters demanded that their homes not be demolished, since some were built with housing permits, while those without permits have now been completed and are at their peak.
