PD and PS: battle for the capital

The two main parties announce their rivals PD and PS continue to keep their preferences secret, on the eve of the start of the election campaign in Tirana, but the names of the candidates keep circulating in circles close to them. For the head of the capital’s municipality, the Democratic Party favors the chairman of its Tirana branch, Spartak Ngjela, an independent deputy, who also served as government spokesman under Meksi during the turbulent 1996-1997 period. He is an acceptable name for more than one faction within PD. The only reason for him to step back could be the burden of being branch chairman. For the municipal chairmanship, according to sources close to PD, names such as Besnik Mustafaj, for unit no. 8, Gramoz Pashko, Ylli Vejsiu, for Tirana’s peripheral areas, etc. are being considered. For the chairmanship of the PS branch in Tirana, it is thought that Bashkim Fino or another person from the ruling party ranks will be preferred. For the communes, sources close to the pink headquarters mention names such as Fatmir Xhafa, Pjetër Arbnori[?], Ylli Bufi[?], etc. In political circles, representatives of the allies are also mentioned, such as Agim Nesho or Skënder Gjinushi. Some of the names are still unconfirmed.[?] The pacification of the main public and well-known opponents, writes candidates without precedent

Discoveries behind the walls of the “Prisons.” Handed over to the investigators by the family’s daughter, a housewife from Elbasan reported that for 17 consecutive years she had been followed by a person who, as soon as she left the house, would enter and strike her in the face.
