Tony BLAIR No one in the West who has witnessed the events in Kosovo can any longer doubt that NATO’s action is justified. In one of his famous statements, Bismarck said that the Balkans were not worth the bones of a single Pomeranian soldier. But anyone who has seen the tear-stained faces of hundreds of thousands of refugees as they cross the border, or heard their appalling accounts describing what they have experienced, or imagined the fate of those left behind, knows that Bismarck was wrong. This is a just war, based not on territorial ambitions but on human values. We cannot allow the horror of ethnic cleansing to continue. We must not stop until the course of events has been changed. Twice already in the course of this century, we have learned that waiting in the hope that peace will remain undisturbed does not work.
