When Enver imposed on the Shehu family the breaking off of the engagement to Silva Turdiu, and pursued the destruction of that family to its conclusion, along with the hypotheses about the possible reasons why Hoxha did such a thing, what prompted him, and what reasons compelled him, Skënder Shehu explains: “From what we have said, it seems that in September 1981 Enver was informed of my engagement to a girl from the Turdiu family. He was not pleased that this engagement had taken place, rather than the one he and Nexhmije were planning, and this is shown precisely by what we said: at my engagement party, he spoke to me less than he did to everyone else.”
