Albania was unable to secure Candidate Country Status for the EU and will not be able to join this bloc for another five years. That was the essence of the European Commission’s opinion in response to Albania’s membership application, made public yesterday in Brussels. The opinion was negative and contained critical remarks on several key concerns, such as the functioning of institutions or the political crisis, despite acknowledging limited progress in some areas.
