Hundreds of citizens lay wreaths at Ismail Qemali’s grave. ‘Ballkanika’, Kadare wins VLORË/ In the City of the Flag, amid official ceremonies, football and ‘Ballkanika’ Vlorë, the 98th anniversary of independence. The Feast of the Flag. There is no city in Albania where Independence Day can be celebrated as in Vlorë. What stands out in the coastal city where Ismail Qemali declared “Albania on its own” are the streets. Filled with red and black flags. On 27 November, everything was ready for the celebration. The streets were filled with large flags; the municipality also took upon itself the distribution of flags, including to citizens in the street. It is a festive atmosphere that makes everything in the city of Vlorë different, also different from Tirana, where the lack of festive flags was evident on the 27th.
