The reason I was brought to write this article were the attitudes of the international community toward the 2009 elections, toward the state terror of 21 January 2011 and other events in Albania during the last two years, as well as the debates taking place in the Albanian media about these attitudes. In particular, these debates show that Albanians have now moved beyond the stage of the first years after the collapse of the communist dictatorship, when the words, speeches and advice of the international community seemed to come from God. Those were the years when we aspired to democracy but did not have the experience of democracy....
