The Council of Ministers decided yesterday that the Directorate of Codes will no longer be a structure under the State Intelligence Service. According to sources within the executive, this directorate now appears likely to come under the Ministry of Defence or otherwise remain in the hands of the government. The decision taken by the Council of Ministers essentially amounts to a curtailment of the powers of the intelligence services. Not only the protection of classified “state secret” information in all state structures, but also the creation and destruction of cryptographic materials...
