“I was a child in ’67, not an Enver supporter” INTERVIEW/ THE AMBASSADOR OF ALBANIA IN SWITZERLAND SPEAKS Mehmet Elezi: During the period that Spartak Ngjela mentions me, I was a high school student in Tropojë. I wrote poetry and eagerly awaited poets from Tirana to come to the city By GILMANA BUSHATI Mehmet Elezi says that Enver Hoxha was [in power] when Enver Hoxha delivered his infamous speech of 6 February 1967, thus categorically undermining the claims made by Spartak Ngjela in his book “Përkula dhe rania e tiranisë shqiptare 1957-2010”, where he is described as a “supporter of the regime” and part of that communist intelligentsia that fiercely fought the pro-European intellectuals of the time. In a statement to “Gazeta Shqiptare”, Elezi explains where he was that year, while Ngjela was part of the regime. “I can only tell you that at the time of 6 February I was an adolescent, a student at the high school in the town of Bajram Curri. I wrote poetry and eagerly awaited the month of literature, to meet some well-known writer from Tirana who might be sent to our small town.
