Fatos Nano, the new Albanian prime minister, openly accused Ambassador Rajerson, Chris Hill and the CIA of plotting with Sali Berisha to remove him from power.” That is the information the US ambassador in Tirana, Marisa Lino, sent to the US State Department on 8 August 1997 regarding Albania’s newly elected prime minister. She describes Nano as a man whom prison has changed completely. “In his last statement in parliament before his arrest, Nano accused former US Ambassador William Rajerson and the CIA of organizing the false trial against him, in order to remove him.
