Unable to make use on its own of the high airspace, above 10,000 meters, Kosovo has recently turned to Albania in order to become a major actor in the management of this corridor, with a significant flight boundary. Kosovo’s airspace, since 1999, according to an agreement with the Republic of former Yugoslavia, has been under NATO control. It gave the international security force, KFOR, the right to control this airspace and establish a ‘Safe Air Zone’, a status that has recently been changing, with the stabilization of the region. Kosovo is currently discussing the possibility of opening the high airspace, and the ideal situation would be for Kosovo Air Navigation Services to take control of the high airspace, which is impossible because of objections from the countries that ...
