The release of those arrested for murder makes our work more difficult The year 2012 seems set to be a turning point for the State Police. The General Patrol will have 1,000 more police officers. The news was confirmed by the General Director of Prisons, Hysni Burgaj. According to Burgaj, the increase in the number of General Patrol staff comes within the framework of the strategy to prevent crime and the fact that more and more the police are trying to be as close as possible to the community. The police chief stressed that the initiative to increase the number of police personnel arose out of necessity, given that in many areas their number was far too small. In fact, there are many small towns, as well as rural areas, where police officers are forced to serve only in the third shift, which is not normal in the situation we are in. “Raising public awareness will be our challenge for the coming year. We will take all the appropriate measures in order to prevent crimes and to be closer to the community,” said Mr. Burgaj.
