Yesterday, the Legal Affairs Committee gathered the request of the Democratic Party parliamentary group to investigate the deputy chairman of the High Council of Justice, Kreshnik Spahiu, with the aim of removing him from this post. The request was approved only with the votes of the majority, after opposition deputies walked out of the meeting. The deputy chairman of the High Council of Justice appeared before the committee, where first the report of Democratic Party deputy Viktor Gumi was heard; he presented the majority’s request seeking Spahiu’s dismissal. The Democrats’ request argues that “the deputy chairman of the High Council of Justice has deviated from his constitutional function and replaced it with political activity incompatible with the duty, failing to represent the interests of the justice function in the Parliament of Albania, the body that elected him.” But from the very start of the meeting the session was accompanied...
