It is thought that around 50,000-70,000 Albanians live there, but the figure is not certain because they did not take part in the latest population census conducted in Serbia. Currently these three towns are the only ones that remained under the Serbian state after the declaration of Kosovo’s independence and the breakup of the former Yugoslavia at the beginning of the 1990s. The Albanians of the Presheva Valley today feel hostage to the Pristina-Belgrade talks. The clashes between the two states fall upon them.
