The process encountered politically motivated obstacles” By LORENC RABETA A few days ago Parliament approved the amendments to the law on the legalization of unauthorized constructions, which paves the way for the amnesty of informal buildings built after 2006. In an interview with “Gazeta Shqiptare”, the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport, Flamur Kuçi, explains how the new law will handle 80,000–100,000 new objects awaiting formalization. While explaining that around 100,000 Albanian families will benefit from the legal changes, the deputy minister emphasizes that during the drafting of the new legal framework special care was taken to exclude from the legalization process informal buildings erected on land owned by lawful owners. In the interview Kuçi stresses that out of about 200,000 files subject to assessment for legalization, nearly half are in the final stage of approval.
