Police sources indicate that a quantity of explosive had been placed in the car of the head of criminal investigations at Police Station No. 1 in Tirana, Artur Hyka. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, when a powerful explosion in the Kinostudio area shook all the residents. Sources from the blue-uniformed police say that Hyka’s car, which had no license plates, was parked under his home when the explosive device went off. It is understood that the amount of explosive was small and that it was ignited with a fuse. Police sources explain that, according to preliminary investigations, the incident is suspected to have occurred because of Hyka’s job as head of criminal investigations at Police Station No. 1 in Tirana. However, given the small amount of explosive, police suspect that the perpetrator’s aim was to issue Hyka with an advance warning. Continues on page 7
