“We will rot in the prisons of
Yemen if the Albanian authori-
ties do not help us.” These are the words
that the captain of the ship,
which was seized some time
ago in Yemeni waters,
Arif Bakillari, tells “Gazeta
Shqiptare”. He says that
there are groundless charges
against them, while he and
the other two Albanians are
innocent. “The reason they
arrested us is because Yemen
wanted to seize the cargo of
our ship. We are innocent.”
Among other things, Bakillari
also recounts the entire route
that the ship he commanded
took, adding that throughout
the time they were monitored
by NATO forces.
How many years were you sentenced to?
We were each sentenced to 6
years in prison, on groundless
charges. It is a political case.
I myself am in the hospital. We
have appealed the decision
because all the accusations they
raise are groundless. They are
making the accusation that we
entered without permission...
