The elections we have just gone through
did not escape facts that are
not very normal or strange
“phenomena.” For the first
time in its history, the Demo-
cratic Party ranked as the
second force in La-
zarat, its main stronghold over
these 22 years of pluralism.
This time, the winner was the
Republican Party, with can-
didate Roland Bejko, who in
a statement to “Gazeta Shqiptare”
yesterday also listed the
reasons for this triumph. “The
first reason is that I am a boy
from Lazarat and that for a
long time I have been a local
leader of PD. The votes in
my favor were personal votes
that I secured, even because
I fought hard for the return
of property to its owner. The
conservative elements of the
right were with me. The
other reason is that this time
the vote for PR was a vote
against Spiro Ksera of PD,
who disappointed the democrats
of Lazarat,” he said. The
second biggest disappointed
group in Gjirokastër turned out
to be the communists. In the city
where he was born and raised...
